I first discovered green smoothies about 8 years ago (before my health journey) while I was reading an interview about Miranda Kerr and her beauty tips. She was taking about blending leafy greens in her orange juice in the morning and I almost spat out my highly processed, sugary breakfast cereal. Seriously!? Who would voluntarily eat vegetables in the morning?
As cringe-worthy as it sounded though I decided to give it a shot in hope that I would miraculously transform into a Victoria Secret supermodel.
Although I’m still waiting for my wings, another kind of amazing transformation happened. I transformed my health.
Since getting on the greens every morning my life and overall wellbeing has improved dramatically. Not only have my energy levels sky rocketed (without the desperate need of a 10am latte) but my skin is brighter and clearer, my attention and focus at work is sharper and I literally cannot remember the last time I fell sick with a cold (and this is coming from someone with a horrible history of recurring tonsillitis).
If there was one piece of advice I had to give anyone looking to improve their health it would be Green Smoothies. They have become a huge craze in the celebrity world to not only keep stars looking great but also give them the energy they need for long hours on set or in the studio.
I love, love, love them. And here’s why…
They boost your energy. The natural sugars from the fruit and vegetables will give you an immediate energy boost while the high fiber content and vitamins and minerals help to prolong the energizing effects.
They are super dooper easy. Throw some fruit and leafy greens into a blender, whiz for 30 seconds, pour into a mason glass and you are done. No chopping, cooking or toasting first thing in the morning. You can even drink them on the run.
Your skin will glow. I’m a big believer in the saying ‘you are what you eat’. If you comsume vibrant coloured vegetables and plump juicy fruit you are going to start looking and feeling a lot more radiant. The high fibre content also increases digestion, by flushing out the colon and eliminating toxins from your body so they don’t show up in the form of breakouts.
They give your body antioxidants Antioxidants help protect the body from disease and illness and repair and prevent DNA damage that comes from nasty free radicals. Antioxidants and phytonutrients are also essential for energy levels and keep your body at optimum health and fitness.
They are a recipe for weight loss Poor digestion is one of the issues that hold people back from shedding excess weight. Green Smoothies not only get things moving and your digestion performing like a BOSS but they are an ideal fat-burning food as they are nutrient-rich, loaded with fibre and low in fat.
Have I convinced you yet?
