IT'S TIME TO...

Spring has finally sprung! So now is the perfect time to do a little internal cleansing. One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to reevaluating your diet is that you need to give up your favorite foods. This is so not true. In fact it is actually less about what you eat and more about the decisions you make. It’s all about finding healthier substitutes for the things you love without feeling deprived.

Here are some great ‘SWAP IT UP’ ideas to help you get started.

SWAP: MILK FOR NUT MILKS

Nut Milks such as almond, brazil, cashew and pistachio are great alternatives to traditional cows milk as they are easier to digest. They are also very high in beneficial fats and calcium. Perfect for your morning smoothie or on top of your cereal or porridge.

SWAP: SOFT DRINK FOR COCONUT WATER

Coconut water is jam packed with electrolytes that will keep you hydrated for longer. It’s also high in potassium and amazing at alkalizing you body’s pH levels. It will still give you the sweetness you are craving without the artificial sweeteners and additives of a soft drink.

SWAP: WHITE SUGAR FOR NATURAL SWEETENERS

This can be honey, coconut sugar or nectar, dates or high-grade maple syrup. These sweeteners will digest slowly into your bloodstream so you don’t get that crazy sugar high and then crash an hour later. Try adding these natural sweeteners to your tea, morning smoothie or desserts.

SWAP: WHITE PASTA FOR GLUTEN FREE GRAINS

White pasta is very heavy in gluten, which is one of the hardest things for our bodies to break down. Give your digestive system a break and try some less starchy, gluten free options when you are craving pasta such as quinoa, wild rice, millet, buckwheat and amaranth.
